What we are looking for

For Creative Non-Fiction, we’re interested in receiving a writing across different forms of the personal essay – memoir, auto-fiction, flash non-fiction, culture, food and eco-critical environmental writing, profiles on people and place, and experimental essays. What we want is something that is current with a touch of the personal story.

We want to champion who you are as a writer, so send us your best work.

We welcome international writers to submit but we only consider work written in English.

Submission guidelines

Standard personal essay – 2,500 – 5,000 words

Flash non-fiction – maximum 750 words

Additional information 

●      Work acceptability – We only accept unpublished work. This means that if your work has been released in print or online in any medium (including social media) we are unable to publish your piece. If after submitting to us, but before selection, your work gets accepted for publication elsewhere please let us know immediately so we know to withdraw your submission. 

●      Review period – If your work is selected for publication we will endeavour to respond within 90 days. However, we may still consider your work for a later publication window up to 6 months after your submission. 

●      Editing process – Work selected for publication will undergo an editing process with our team to ensure work we publish is aligned with our vision and values. We work closely with our authors and invite you to be open to this collaborative process. 

●      Writer remuneration – We do not provide remuneration for any submission selected for publication on MIR Online. 

●      Writing analysis – Due to limited time we do not offer feedback on pieces we do not select. 

●      Copyright license – All work on MIR Online is published under the creative commons license.
