Birkbeck Arts Week, 2016 runs from Monday 16 to Saturday 21 May and the Creative Writing department will be hosting two events during Arts Week. These events will be complimented by MIRLive on May 13th and Birkbeck Poets on May 22nd.

 

MIRLive
Tuesday 17th May, 6-7.30pm
The Harrison (28 Harrison St, London WC1H 8JF)

Our first MIRLive will take place on May 13th 2016 and we are joined by Benjamin Wood, Nadim Safdar and Courttia Newland. MIRLive takes over from Hubbub and will continue to showcase the best of Birkbeck alongside guest readers. This special event will take place at The Harrison (28 Harrison St, London WC1H 8JF) on May 13th at 7.30pm, and will officially launch MIROnline to the world.

Writing from Life
Tuesday 17th May, 6-7.30pm
Room 101, 30 Russell Square

Writers Joanna Walsh, Kirsty Gunn and Gabriel Josipovici in discussion with Julia Bell (Birkbec) about the current popularity of Non Fiction, and what makes a piece of Non Fiction ‘creative’, the difference between memoir and autofiction and how to approach writing from life.

Birkbeck Creative Writing Alumni Showcase, featuring the announcement of the Kit de Waal Scholarship
Wednesday 18th May, 6-7.30pm
Birkbeck Cinema, 43 Gordon Square

Birkbeck’s creative writing courses foster some of the country’s most exciting new writing talent. This reading event showcases four recent graduates whose first novels are released in 2016: Julia Gray, Nicolás Obrégon, Nadim Safdar and David Savill. The evening concludes with the announcement of the inaugural recipient of the Kit de Waal Scholarship for the Creative Writing MA programme.

Birkbeck Poets
Sunday 22nd May, 6.30 for 7pm
The Duke of Wellington, (119 Balls Pond Rd, London N1 4BL)

The tenth reading in the series will take place in the relaxed and atmospheric setting of the Duke of Wellington, Dalston where Birkbeck Poets will perform alongside guest poets Keith Jarrett, Fran Lock and Martina Evans with one other special guest to be confirmed.
