An amazing line up of poets for our Arts Week Special

^{Our next MIRLive takes place on May 15th from 7.30 pm at the Harrison, 28 Harrison Street, King’s Cross, WCIH 8JF.}

^{This is an exciting Arts week special and a great opportunity to join an accomplished group of poets for the open mic session. The event will be headlined by Julia Bell, Keith Jarrett, Fran Lock, JJ Bola, Stephen Morrison-Burke and Sogol Sur. The deadline for submissions is April 28th.}

Submission Guidelines

• ^{Any UK based author can submit work for consideration.}
• ^{You should submit 1 poem of up to 50 lines}
• ^{Submissions should be unpublished.} 
• ^{The MIROnline team will decide which submissions to select and the running order of the night.}
• ^{No editorial input will be provided. Work will be selected as it stands.}
• ^{Submissions should be sent as an attachment to editor@mironline.org}
• ^{You will be advised whether your submission has been selected at least one week before the event.}

^{Julia Bell}

^{Julia Bell is a writer and Senior Lecturer at Birkbeck College, London where she is the Course Director of the Creative Writing MA. She is the author of three novels, most recently The Dark Light, the co-editor of the Creative Writing Coursebook as well as three volumes of short stories. She also takes photographs, writes poetry, short stories, occasional essays and journalism. She divides her time between London and Berlin.}

^{Keith Jarrett}

^{Keith Jarrett is a former UK poetry slam champion and Rio International Poetry Slam Winner 2014. He is a PhD scholar at Birkbeck University, where he is completing his first novel. His poetry pamphlet, I Speak Home, was published last year and his first full collection, Selah, is out this April.} 

^{Fran Lock}

^{Fran Lock is a dog whisperer and author of three poetry collections, Flatrock (Little Episodes, 2011), The Mystic and the Pig Thief (Salt, 2014), and Dogtooth (Out-Spoken Press, 2017). She is currently undertaking a practice based Ph.D at Birkbeck on the relationship between the epistolary form in contemporary poetry and the use of letters in therapeutic contexts.}

^{Stephen Morrison-Burke}

^{Stephen Morrison-Burke became the Birmingham Poet Laureate in 2012, the youngest in its 20 year history. He is the winner of the 2014 National Poetry Slam and the 2016 Kit De Waal Scholarship. Stephen was invited to meet Her Majesty the Queen at Buckingham Palace in recognition of achievements in poetry. Stephen performed in front of tens of thousands outside parliament square for the People’s Assembly Against Austerity. He performed a poem for Prince William’s first visit to the Library of Birmingham and was commissioned to write and read three poems for BBC Radio 4’s ‘Poetry Please’. He is also the former two time Midland Boxing Champion and National Semi-Finalist. Stephen currently works freelance teaching creative writing workshops in schools, youth offending institutions, colleges, and universities.} 

^{Sogol Sur}

^{Sogol Sur is currently doing her PhD in creative writing at Birkbeck. She explores in-betweenness, hybridity, and the Iranian queer in both her creative and academic writing. She has performed both her prose and poetry in the Literary Kitchen Festival, Humbermouth Literature Festival, Poets Against Oppression, There Goes the Neighbourhood, Birkbeck Poets, In Yer Ear, and Cold Lips. Her writing has been published in Shout Out UK, The Writer’s Hub, Femmuary, and Confronting Rape Culture Chapbooks 2 & 3.}
